When should you replace your boiler?

An aging boiler costs more to run and breaks down more often. Here's the checklist our engineers use to decide: repair vs replace.

Most boilers last between 10 and 15 years with proper servicing. But age alone isn't always the deciding factor — efficiency, repair frequency and the cost of parts all play a role.

The repair-vs-replace rule

A useful rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than half the price of a new boiler, replace it. A new boiler will also run more efficiently, saving you money on energy bills.

Signs your boiler needs replacing

Your boiler is over 12 years old. You're calling engineers out more than once a year. Your energy bills have crept up without explanation. The boiler takes a long time to heat the water. You can hear unusual banging, kettling or whistling noises.

What a new boiler costs in Birmingham

A new Worcester Bosch or Viessmann boiler, installed by our Gas Safe engineers, typically costs between £1,800 and £3,200 including fitting. Finance is available from £50/month.

Annual servicing extends boiler life

If your boiler is under 10 years old and only had one or two minor repairs, an annual service is almost always the right call. It keeps the warranty valid and catches problems before they become expensive.
