A full drain blockage is expensive and disruptive. The good news: there are almost always warning signs weeks before it happens.
1. Slow drainage
If your sink, bath or shower is draining slowly, there's a partial blockage building. Don't ignore it — it won't clear itself.
2. Gurgling sounds
Gurgling from drains or toilets means air is being trapped in the pipe — a classic sign of a partial obstruction.
3. Unpleasant smells
Sulphuric or sewage-like odours from drains mean organic matter is rotting in the pipe. This needs clearing.
4. Water backing up
If flushing a toilet causes water to rise in your shower, your main drain is blocked.
5. Multiple fixtures affected
If more than one fixture is draining slowly, it's likely a main drain issue, not just a localised problem.
